Hythe broken Tower and Milky Way
Hythe
Night scene in Hythe Bay by the broken Martello Tower. The Milky Way Core makes a nice show across the bay. The bright lights of Folkestone can be seen to the left, Dymchurch and Dungeness to the right; and France across The Channel.
Martello Towers in Kent From 1805 to 1809, there were 27 Martello Towers built along the Kent coast, from No.1 to the north of Folkestone to No.27 in St Mary's Bay, to defend the coast from Napoleon. Of these 16 remain together with Sandgate Castle.
