Owl In The Snow
Hersden

A very hard to find barn owl.

After many fruitless attempts to keep tabs my local elusive barn owl I finally I saw her. Way off in the distance and nearly dark, but yes there she was, in angel pose and ready for the kill; just to the right of the trees and above the snow covered field.

The Barn Owl was given its scientific name –Tyto alba – in 1769, by G.A. Scopoli an Italian doctor and naturalist (1723 – 1788). Tyto alba literally means “white owl”, from the Latin word for white: alba and the Ancient Greek onomatopoeic name for an owl: tyto or τυτο.
