Folkestone Warren Milky Way 1.

The Milky Way core rising in early April at The Warren, Folkestone at night An old breakwater make for a nice foreground. The bright orange lights are the lights from France across The Channel.

This sandy beach, near Folkestone, has rocks and some good rock pools. The beach is quite popular with fossil hunters as over the years some interesting specimens have been found here.

Behind the beach, the area known as The Warren Country Park has been formed by centuries of land slippage. Steep paths wind through this woodland and the chalk cliffs. The Country Park is home to a wide variety of rare animal and plant life. These include some rare types of butterfly and around 150 species of birds can be seen around the cliffs. Wild cabbage, samphire and rock sea lavender can also be found here.

From the top of the cliffs there are spectacular views out to sea.

Nearby, Folkestone’s East Cliff has three Martello towers, built in Napoleonic times as part of the south coast defence system.
