A very interesting couple of nights in the amazing Caherdaniel, where we now live. A rare opportunity for me to see the stars from the horizon up, such a joy after the star gobbling lights of Kent. This picture was from the pre-dawn hours of this morning. Taken from a high vantage point, looking down to Derrynane Harbour and beyond; with Abbey Island, Lambs head and The Beara Peninsula way off in the distance. The biting east wind did its best to curtail my efforts, but an extra bag of rocks to weigh down my tripod, and many extra layers, saw me though a couple of hours, until the blue hour. For those technically minded, I started my shooting with a 20mm, but soon realised it just wasn't cutting the mustard and broke out my old faithful 50mm 1.8 pancake, cheap and cheerful, but brilliant lens. I shot for 6 minutes, iso 400 at f2. One shot with my tracker on, to avoid star trailing (urghh!) and one with it off. The tripod and camera stayed in the same position. The two images I then blended together.
